Human beings are electrochemical/biological/psychological creatures. Our biological systems communicate with each other to maintain a balance of self-regulation. Stress and other things can cause dys-regulation of any or all of our systems. Biofeedback is a technology-assisted form of counseling that can help re-regulate the balance of our electrochemical/biological/psychological systems to improve functioning.

Biofeedback can also be called psycho-physio-self-regulation. It is little more than using your mind and your senses to help you notice your body and vice-versa. Any psychological difficulty that has a biological manifestation can be helped and possibly eliminated with the assistance of biofeedback.

The first and most important step in biofeedback training is breathing. Try this quick exercise:

Take a breath.
On the exhale, let your hands and feet feel heavy and relaxed.
At the same time, say to yourself, “Relaxed body, alert mind.”

It takes about 6 seconds to do this relaxation response. Do this 20 times a day, which over the length of your workday is a total of two minutes.

No matter how busy you are, you have 2 minutes.

If you do this activity for 7 days, you will begin to notice that the day leaves you less stressed.

Confidentiality and Ethical Codes
There are many laws and codes of ethics that regulate a therapist. It is beyond question and dispute that a therapist protects with the strictest confidence the information shared in the therapeutic setting. During the initial visit, a clear declaration of client’s rights is shared.
